Photograph Policies

Photography Policy and Permits:

We welcome all who visit the Forney Museum of Transportation to take photographs for personal use. We allow the use of monopods for personal photography during admission hours (tripods are not permitted). Portrait photography, with or without a professional photographer, requires a photography permit and must be scheduled in advance. Portrait Photography is defined below. Scheduling a photo session with the Forney Museum allows the person/group to have a more personalized experience and to get creative without the interference of other visitors. Some vehicles and equipment are available to sit inside, and staff can remove chains and barriers to allow better access for the photo shoot.

Read the details below and book your next photo shoot with us!

Portrait photography is defined as but not limited to: Senior, Engagement, Anniversary, Graduation, Professional Headshots, Wedding, etc. Commercial Photography, Videography, and Press Photography are considered on an individual basis and must be approved and scheduled through the Forney Museum of Transportation.

Refer to the Museum’s Commercial Photography Contract, on the website, for more information and related fees.

Photography Policy & Guidelines:

Photo Permits and Filming Permits within the Museum are issued by appointment only. The Forney Museum of Transportation will not permit photo sessions or film sessions without a scheduled appointment. Photo sessions are limited to times before business hours or after business hours. Photo sessions are supervised by a Museum staff member for the entire duration of the photo shoot.

No pets, including Emotional Support Animals (only CSA, Certified Service Animals are permitted); no smoking; glitter; paint; food; or beverages are allowed in the Museum during photography sessions. Props are considered on a case-by-case basis; the Museum reserves the right to deny the use of certain props. Photographers must disclose all props that will be used during the photography session.

Clients must be fully and appropriately clothed (no nudity, swimsuits, lingerie, etc.). No dressing rooms will be provided; clients must arrive prepared, including hair and makeup.

Wedding ceremonies are strictly prohibited without an Event Booking. (Please contact Events at [email protected] for information on Event Rentals). Photographers shall not move, alter or disturb the Museum’s artifacts without the assistance of Museum staff. Supplemental lighting must be pre-approved by Museum staff.

An explanation of how and where the photos will be used may be required prior to the shoot. Photographers are required to provide intent and scope of photo shoot.

Artifacts and artwork within the Museum are subject to copyright and other intellectual property law. Permission to photograph at the Museum does NOT include permission to use images, and the Museum is not able to provide such permissions for all artifacts and images.

The Museum reserves the right to terminate any photography sessions deemed to be disruptive or to escort photographers off of Museum property who are not operating in accordance with rules and regulations of the Museum; permits may be revoked without refunds if guidelines are not abided.
